Exercise
Water Is Life. Drink Up.
Your muscles love water
Casual and professional athletes know the value of water before, during and after exercise. You feel more energy when you get the right amount of water every day. And, many health experts would argue that for an athlete to perform at his or her peak, it is very important to be properly hydrated. Water may help alleviate and sometimes prevent muscle fatigue and other effects of consistent exercise and exertion. 2Water tips for athletes
- Eat a balanced meal and drink plenty of water 24 hours before an intense workout
- Drink two glasses of water before exercise
- Drink water at regular intervals while you exercise
- Weigh yourself before and after vigorous workouts to make sure you’ve replaced the fluids lost from working out
- If your urine is dark after exercising, drink more water
You may need water when…
You feel the symptoms of dehydration coming on. These symptoms may be more extreme and happen more frequently for athletes. According to the Mayo Clinic a healthy adult can usually treat mild to moderate dehydration by drinking more fluids, such as water or a sports drink. They recommend you get immediate medical care if you develop severe signs and symptoms such as extreme thirst, a lack of urination, shriveled skin, dizziness and confusion.1Water and your weight
Drinking water is an important part of living a healthy lifestyle. Drinking water can help you lose weight and maintain your weight. Help cut calories by hydrating with zero-calorie water, instead of sugary beverages. Water can also help play a positive role in managing your child’s weight. Childhood obesity is a national epidemic and the habits kids form when they are with you and on their own are crucial to maintaining a healthy weight.2- 1. “6 Reasons to Drink Water,” WebMD
